All have an awful film on them

When I got them I noticed a petroleum smelling grease like film/substance on them but I figured that I could clean them off with some solvent, but now that I have let them sit unused for a few weeks that film has dried like glue. I should have returned them, but I thought I could clean them. Now it is going to take some kind of abrasive solvent cleaner. I don't know if it will even be worth it. Of course the return window has closed. Terrible! Just disappointing. They had to be put into the bag before delivery, and I just don't understand how the employee could ignore the condition and send them anyway.
